At this point, the Summer Green season had commenced. The temperature did peak out in the 90’s for days, but soon after, crashed down to the 60’s. The manager was using a lot of nitrogen, and the current call was more nitrogen, more irrigation, and a few fungicides. Since a lot of the green was at the edge of the field, I recommended to use a blue versus yellow technique to help contain the effect of brown patch and other diseases. I had suggested a couple fungicides, and he said no since he was not sure that was necessary. We researched on the internet and our county’s extension site and decided to try a “Blazer” at 60% aqueous applied using a sprayer at light to medium rates using a 2.5% emulsifiable concentrate at the one acre patch. It crunched down in size but had great brown patch control. Less than a week later, he called back and was lost and was wondering if it was worth it and if there was a no spray on blue note. We went to the site and found a large patch of brown on one area (likely they were using a sprayer during the day and couldn’t see the patch because of the light reflectivity of the dead and dying turf). He wanted to use a fungicide but didn’t want to be stuck with a prescription sprayed. I recommended a product from an innovative company called BioAgents that has several turf programs. The monitoring was 2 points in an area called a “Pointer” which were to three feet apart. All the points were brown, dead, dead, and dead, but not affected by the fungicide they used and I recommended a fungicide package. This program is now being used on the other field. d2c66b5586
